Discover two fascinating places in China. Both enlisted as UNESCO World Heritage Sites, both jaw-droppinly impressive and both deeply rooted in traditional Chinese history and culture. These two locations are a must if you are looking for more hidden gems in China.

Mount Fanjing 梵净 is located in Tongren, Guizhou province and it is the highest peak of the Wuling Mountains in southwestern China, at an elevation of 2,570 m (8,430 ft). Fanjingshan is a sacred mountain in Chinese Buddhism, considered to be the bodhimaṇḍa of the Maitreya Buddha. The Fanjingshan National Nature Reserve was established in 1978 and it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2018.

Fenghuang (Phoenix) Ancient Town 凤凰古城, located in Hunan is an old town built up in Qing Dynasty, which is still being kept in its original appearance even after more than 300 years of being built. Ranking as the top ancient town in China, Fenghuang Ancient Town is a guidebook for people to know the past life in the pre-modernization period. Spend a day exploring this beautiful town, that also makes up the UNESCO World Heritage list.

DAY 1

A hike to two temples at the top of two different peaks in the Wuling Mountain range. For thousands of years, this mountain has ben worshipped as a sacred mountain.

If you thought that the previous temple was impressive, then wait until you climb this one. It’s exhilarating and just plain awesome!

Enjoy the area around Fanjing Mountain

Distance:  The hike consists of man-made stairs leading from the upper cable car station to the two temples. It is an equivalent to about 200 floors (600 meters of elevation gain)

Duration: 3 hours (with breaks)

Important notice: access to the cable car is determined by the weather conditions. In the unlikely event of extreme weather conditions, the cable car will stop.
