Kaiping is best known for its “diaolou,” multi-story towers that were built to serve as watchtowers to protect the city, and also as communal towers for groups of multiple families and as stronghouse residences for wealthy families. Kaiping area is home to hundreds of unique Diaolou – fortress watchtowers that were meant to protect the city from invaders. Kaiping is recognized as hometown to many overseas Chinese. It has plenty of historic villages with their rich agricultural lands and traditions.
Tangkou Community Project
The Tangkou Community Project, also known as the TK-SPACE is located in the rural outskirts of the city of Kaiping, Guangdong Province, China, where is the ancestral home of many overseas Chinese. It is a privately operated business model aiming for sustainable community work and conservation of the local areas that can be enjoyed by all.
The TK-SPACE provides a platform for local visitors and international guests to explore the community and discover ways of life of typical rural people living in southern China. It also supports visiting groups and facilitate community activities among the local people and encourages interaction between the local, visitors from nearby and overseas Chinese.
THIS TWO-DAY TRIP FEATURES:
Spend one night in the village of Tangkou in a unique hostel converted from a former watch factory.
Visit the five granaries located right beside the hostel. Historically they played a very important role during the Great Leap Forward.
Hop on two wheels and explore the surrounding villages
Make your way to another captivating village – Cangdong
Bonfire to end the night!
Enjoy the gorgeous scenery of Kaiping
Enjoy some activities in the hostel such as dumpling making and Chinese calligraphy workshop

In case of a cancellation, the amount paid is not refundable after the 5th of October, unless a replacement is found.
A MINIMUM of 10 participants is required to organize this trip. Should the trip be cancelled due to a low number of participants, changing weather conditions or other unforeseeable factors, all guests receive a full refund.
