Join us on an incredible adventure to Yúnnán (云南) the most diverse province in all of China, both in its extraordinary mix of peoples and in the richness of its landscapes. That combination of superb sights and many different ethnic groups has made Yúnnán one of the top destinations in China.

As an important border province of southwestern in China, Yunnan borders Burma, Vietnam, and Laos. It has long been reputed as ‘Colored Clouds in the South.’ It has an average altitude of 2,000 meters and a temperate tropical plateau monsoon climate. It boasts imposing natural scenery, such as snowcapped mountains, glaciers, lakes, hot springs, plateaus, virgin forests, and tropical rainforests. In addition, it abounds in biological resources and enjoys such good reputations as the Kingdoms of Plants and the Realm of Animals, which has greatly benefited in the development of ecological tourism.

Yunnan is known as one of the birthplaces of human beings, and the remains of the Yuanmu Man found in the province date back 1.7 million years. Furthermore, countless places of historic interest are scattered around the province. Yunnan is inhabited by such 26 ethnic groups as the Han, Dai, Bai, Yi, and Hani, making it the province with the most nationalities in China. Each ethnic minority has its unique, colorful customs. A famous tourist province in China, Yunnan has now two World Heritage sites, namely the Lijiang Ancient Town and the Three Parallel Rivers.

The Tiger Leaping Gorge, even though it sounds like a fictional place, it is very real and if you hike the 16km along it, you’ll find yourself amazed at this trail that passes through steep ridges and vertiginous cliffs.

Arrival to Lijiang, Yunnan, China. You may choose to arrive by train or plane.

Explore Shuhe Old Town, just as beautiful as Lijiang, but a bit less touristic.

Explore Lijiang Old Town, a beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site that will transport you to ancient China when you walk its cobblestone streets.

Hike along one of the deepest gorges in the world, the Tiger Leaping Gorge.

Tiger Leaping Gorge was named as UNESCO World Heritage natural site in 2003 and it is one of the world’s deepest canyons. It’s where whitewaters of the mighty Jinsha River (primary branch of the Yangtze River) roar beneath cliffs that tower up to 3,790 meters high.

Stand on a viewpoint right next to the Jinsha river and feel its power!

Let the hike begin! You will now get a chance to admire the impressive gorge from above.

Distance: 15 kilometers

Duration: 7 hours

Ascent: 542 meters

Highest point: 2650 meters

Bike from Wenhai (over 3,000 meters above sea level) lake to Baisha Ancient Town (a picturesque and traditional Chinese village)

Visit a beautiful temple on your way down the mountain.

Distance: 25 kilometers
A truck will carry our bicycles all the way to the top to the lake area. When we start, the initial uphill section from the lake is quite steep so we will just walk with our bikes and only start biking downhill. The road has two lanes and there are rarely any cars on it. The basic requirement is that you are comfortable on a bike. If that’s not the case we suggest staying behind in Baisha and exploring the village a little longer.

Walk around the cobblestone alleys of Baisha village.
